Full Version: Poudre River Flows

Since runoff started, there have been record high flows in the Poudre through Fort Collins, virtually all Summer. The last record was about a week ago. Now the flows are down to extremely low and damaging flows.

Why can't the flows be leveled out so there are moderate flows instead of the extreme changes we see. In low water years I can understand these low flows but when we have an over abundance of water, I would think that some concessions could be made for the good of the river.

I have no answers and I apologize for the rant, but this drives me CRAZY!!!

I agree that this is really dumb. After I hiked up to Zimm last Friday, I noticed Joe Wright Reservoir looked very low. But the river looked okay. Incidentally, Zimm appeared fishless but there were plenty of moose.

Seems like trout unlimited might be interested... On second thought, CARP unlimited.

Seriously, just trying to keep your thread alive Willi.

Wow, if only we had a reservoir so flows could be controlled. You can thank the folks that are fighting that first, second you can thank Jackson Ditch. They are running the ditches through the end of October. They won't admit it, but they are selling the water to other water entities to fill their lakes.

It's all about the almighty $$ and water is worth more than gold any more.
