I been using the Tiogas since I first started guiding. Their reputation as tough, dependable, affordable reel has been earned. I just received the new #4 & #12 Tiogas & was pleasantly surprised. These reels have been considerably "dressed" up, compared to the original Tiogas & look a lot more like their more expensive brother, the Teton. Price point is comparable to the Orvis Mid-Arbor, so if you're "looking", these are worth taking a closer look...

I have not used the new ones or the large arbor models but I use a tioga reel on my 5 and 7weight rods and I have to agree with wyldgene, I love these reels with ALL of my body.

They may be a bit heavier than some of the higher $$ reels but they are extremely well made and are practically indestructable. The drag on them is smooth and has a nice, smooth startup.

They also look pretty. Wyldgene told me that he especially loves the way they look on his Winston rods.

Actually they went on a couple of very pretty T&T's, an 863 Helix & a 1509 Double Handed...

Here is a link to the Tiogas on Cabelas.

Decent priced reels. I'd like to hold one before I bought one though.

You wont be disappointed Brandon.

Gene, do they still make em in the silverish grey? They dont look as good in black or that green color.

Gene-

I'm definitely interested - I had my eye set on a Battenkill Mid Arbor (I like the chrome and larger arbor), but if I could get a comparable large arbor for similar price, that would be even better.

Will you be at the Bighorn gathering?

Yeah, I gonna try for @ least one day, maybe tent it if the weather's not too bad.
The one thing that sets the Tioga apart is the spool release. I like that big, positive plunger a lot better than those itty-bitty "try & get yer finger in here & push me sideways w/o bending me" tabs...

Well then, if I might, I'd like to try one of dem suckers!

I'd like to at least cast one. Do you sell them too?

Nope, I just seem to collect 'em... wacko.gif

Just my 2 cents....I have a Tioga for my 4wt....love it. Will defeintly be a reel that has made my 'Inner Circle of Trust' for future purchases.

Here is an Ebay store that sells lots of Tioga's for under MSRP.

Check it out.
