Now that I'm a new boat owner....I'm starting to look at some waters I never really considered before. So, in that vein....when does Spinney typically open up? I would love to get my dorie down there and paddle around...hook some hogs...yadda yadda.
Thanks!

I went down with my float tube a week after the opener last year. That is about all I remember. Well, not quite. I slept over in my blazer and remember that it was 17 degrees when I woke up. But I got so cold sitting in that water with the breeze that I think I blocked most of that memory out. I can't even remember what the date way! Not much help, I know. It varies of course, but I'm going to say second half of April this year....maybe.
Is there a specific 'opening day' on Spinney or is it just open when ice comes off?
Vision...that sounds miserable!

I may be wrong but from what I have experienced they open it after the ice melts either on a wednesday or a saturday. Last year it was the 16th of April, the year before was April 1st I think.

Hef, either watch the board, or contact the Colorado State Park Service. They usually don't open the gate to Spinney until the ice is gone, which varies year to year.

Here's a quick blurb from a guy on another board...
"Worst opener of this decade. We left around noon for other parts. The weather was as nice as could ever be expected for South Park in April and the wind did just what it was supposed to do. However, in the half day that I was there, we didn't see one fish cruising the shoreline. The vast majority of the fish that were caught were dinks with a random assortment of tweeners thrown in for good measure. The numbers weren't there and the size certainly wasn't either. Crowds weren't that bad, certainly not as bad as last year.
Many kudos go out to Mark from Canon City for his willingness to share. What a guy!
FWIW, it still never fails to amaze me how people nurse fish. Give 'em the wood for crying out loud!"
