Homes For Our Troops will be building a home just east of Castle Rock this year to give to a Marine who was severely injured in Iraq. In addition to there being an opportunity to donate to the project, there is also an opportunity to donate your time and efforts. I've worked at building 4 houses so far for HFOT, and it is very satisfying work. (Disclaimer: the 4th one was the house built for one of my sons.) I'll put in some days on this house too.

Here's a link to more info on this house building project and the Marine who will be getting the home.

If anybody has questions on HFOT or this project, I'll be happy to answer them here.

Thanks!

i didn't see a way to volunteer labor on that website. i saw a place to give cash but no way to sign up to give manhours. i'd maybe be interested in helping frame the house, but i'd need to see the schedule to see if i can make it work with my own work schedule. can you post some more details about each of those here or ask the webmaster for that site to post them?

If you go to the page I posted as a link, you will see 5 "buttons" on the right for your type of volunteering. If you are a pro, for example, click "Professional tradesmen". An amateur like me would lick "volunteer opportunities". Etc. After you have filled out your contact info, you will be added to the e-mailing list for periodic project updates.

FWIW, I am not part of HFOT other than as a volunteer laborer when the project is within driving distance of my home. So contacting them directly is your best option. I just wanted to alert folks in the area to this opportunity.

Thanks for your interest, folks! I can vouch for what a good group HFOT is and how they keep their overhead expenses to a minimum so they can build more homes that are specially adapted to the needs of severely injured veterans.
