Guys-
Yesterday Andrew and I were talking about having a Carp Day, just a bunch of whomever would like to get together and have a fun day of sticking some fish.

We thought we'd throw this out to everyone and see what they think, we don't really have a plan or anything, but we'd like to hear from you.

If we have enough boats, we could do that, or if someone has a good bank/wade/walk spot they'd like to share with us all, where we could fit a few guys in, that would work as well. We felt it would be a great thing for everyone to get together and exchange ideas and things, a Carp Workshop, so to speak.

Would like to gauge some interest before we nail down a location or date, fair enough?

Post your thought's here: OK?

Of course I'll be in. April 26-29 I'll be an the Arkansas, but other than that and occasional weekend work, I should be okay. I can usually work around that weekend work too. Sounds like a blast! emthup[1].gif

More on these thoughts.....
  • One day event
  • Overnight with a Barbeque after the 1st day
  • One Day with a Barbeque after
Just some thoughts, I am up for whatever!!

I'd be up for it! One place that occurs to me in Boulder is Sawhill Ponds - enough ponds with carp to accommodate plenty of waders, though no boating.

I'd prefer a day trip, I think I have all my overnight fishing booked until the baby arrives...

And then all of your overnight fishing gets canceled for the next 10 years biggrin.gif

Mark...

I could go for this. Have never "carped", but would like to learn more about it and would like to meet some more folks. Could only make a day trip (or one day of a multiday trip). Busy time of year.

No, then I get to sit on the bank with the little one, as we watch Kelly fish.

Alright guys, looks like there is some interest. I'll wait and see if the rest of the Fort Collins guys will want to join in, MarkM, MarkG, Willi, etc and then maybe we can discuss some dates and locations.

Ian, I like the Sawhill idea, but let's see if more FC guys chime in. We might be better off with a more central location.

BTW, I think a day is just perfect, we are all within an hour of each other and have a multitude of waters to choose from, so we can just decide on a date and place, fish, throw some burgers on the grill, eat, and head home emthup[1].gif

I'm up for it. BBQ or beers etc... afterwards makes it more fun, b/c then you can concentrate on fishing while you fish, but then get to know everyone else afterwards.

I'd just like a date when the carp fishing is pretty good (as in I think it will be better towards and into May, rather than now).

Place: someplace where we have plenty of room and can sight fish.

keep me posted.

Kyner, or someone, can you IM/email me to make sure I don't miss it?

looking forward to it.

so things won't really change much eh? tongue.gif

I'd be up for something too. Never carped but would like to try. Let me know.

I can see it now, "Kyner's Karp Fest 07!" biggrin.gif

OK, cool, I have a PM to Andrew to find out his schedule, he is a Firefighter so his schedule is a bit different than the rest of ours but we'll look for a Saturday in May.

Besides the Sawhill suggestion from Ian, does anyone else have any other suggestions for place?

I'm too new to this carp game to have any good spot for that many folks. So looking forward to this outing!!! Peace.gif

If it's okay, I might bring along a friend who doesn't participate on this board, but is very interested in getting into the carp scene.

Ok, here is are some logistical issues we will need to work out.

How many people are in for sure?
Day event or longer?
Fish from a boat? We need to know how many boats are available and how many people can fish out of them?
Fish from the shoreline, if so where?

If we do the boat deal, I can take two people for a total of three.

So lets try and answer these questions then come up with the date!

Do you have the capability to put a trolling motor on it? Excuse my ignorance, but how many people can fish out of one also?

It can fit 3, one on the oars, one in the bow, and one in the stern. Probably could clamp a trolling motor to it, but I don't have one. That is a great idea, BTW.

I have a spare trolling motor and battery, now all we need is a few more boats!!

Depending on the amount of notice and the date, I'll have two people.

I'm up for a day event myself. BBQ at the end would be a huge bonus! I'd be up for bringing something.

I don't have a boat.

I'm up for either fishing from shore or from boat, but like I said, I'm too new to carp for any suggestions. I heard Jackson is amazing, but it'll be off of 34 and a bit out of the way.

Ok, I will throw out some dates. We still need more boats if we want to do Union.

May 5,6
June 2,3,9,10,23

If I ever get my boat upgraded with a poling platform and casting deck, count me in.

Mark
Kyner
I can do the 6th, 3rd, 10th, or 23rd.

Looking like this may be a walk thing if we don't get some more boats going. If this is the case we probably would do Sawhill/Walden as there are about 15 or more ponds there, most all with Carp, easy to spread out.

But if anyone has any suggestions as to a place that would offer both good boating and walking then let's hear it, because that would be ideal emthup[1].gif

I can do any of those dates right now. biggrin.gif
Saul Goode
I pretty much can too. Anyone have a hand-carry boat? That would be epic in some of those Sawhill ponds.

I'd like to put up Fort Collins as a location. Most of the people expressing interest in attending live in the Fort.

There are numerous ponds scattered throughout the Fort Collins area that hold good carp populations.

North of Fort Collins there are three reservoirs within a short driving distance of each other that host good carp populations. They can each accomidate wading and/or boating anglers. The largest MIGHT be big enough to hold everyone.

I'll have to play it by ear. The May dates are taken, and the baby is due June 5...

I think we need to explore this option, I'm not familiar with those lakes but if there is a place we can get some boats and walk/wade in, and have good fishing both ways I think we are golden. This what we really need.

Are these lakes on the Web, or can you elaborate more?

Thanks Willi emthup[1].gif

I'm definately no expert on Carping as I do the majority of it while the streams and rivers are in runoff. So, other people who have expressed interest probably know of better waters.

None of these are a secret or anything but one of the smaller waters is a favorite of mine and I'm reluctant to post it on the net for everyone to see. I just IMed you about them and I think Mark K is going to forward the info to interested parties.

I'm in no way claiming they're the best Carping waters in the Fort Collins area but all three of them have launches and all three of them can be waded, although some have harder bottoms than others. If the wind's not blowing too hard, all three have good sight fishing. High wind or wind from the wrong direction can murk up the water. They also would be good for a cookout afterward.

Went out this afternoon to check out the lakes. Got to two of them. The water was clear but I only saw one fish in the shallows. I couldn't get to the shore of the first lake that I like to fish for Carp because the level is up (which is good) and the channel was too deep. I fished for a bit there and catch a small Bass. Then I went to one of the other reservoirs. Again I didn't see any Carp in the shallows but saw one jump in about three feet of water. I caught four out of that spot on a modified Andrew's slider in orange with rubber legs (caught the Bass on it too!). The fish ate it. One of them really nailed it. They fought VERY hard.

I think a week of warm temps should move them into the shallows.
